Robert Logan

Robert Logan is an Emmy Award nominated composer, musician and producer. He has created multiple critically acclaimed solo albums, with the BBC calling him “a prodigy...showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find” in their review of debut album Cognessence. His last full-length, Flesh was described as “a musical object so radical and daring it seems not to belong to this time.” His film credits include, with Ivor Guest, music for Alex Gibney’s Oscar winning Taxi to the Dark Side, the Oscar-nominated Semper Fi: Always Faithful and multiple Prime Time Emmy Award winning Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God, among many others. He has collaborated musically with Grace Jones, Brian Eno, Ivor Guest, Steve Roach, Brigitte Fontaine, Morcheeba and Andy Knight. His live work includes performances at The Royal Festival Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, and Glastonbury. Alongside composition and sound design work for film, media, installations and apps, he is also regularly called upon as a synthesist and pianist in a wide variety of contexts and musical styles.

Discography [solo albums and EPs]
  • Cognessence [2007, Slowfoot Records] (BBC review also states: “There is a rigorous standard to the programming that exerts an incredible sense of control yet allows real feelings to germinate and blossom in the listener.”DJ magazine wrote: “The essential last word in electronic soundscapes.")
  • Grinder E.P [2008, Slowfoot Records] (Mary Anne Hobbs from BBC Radio 1: “…absolutely outstanding…impossible to quantify.”)
  • The Sublime 2CD [2008, Hypnos Records, released under Sense Project pseudonym] ("...The Sublime is just that, a two-disc set of spiritualized dream tonics carping from beatless industrialisms, early Tangerine Dream initializations, and Eno-esque minimalese that so transcends its antecedents it ends up sounding nothing like them." [Signal to Noise Magazine])
  • Inscape [2009, Slowfoot Records] (The Wire writes: "Robert Logan's music is assured, airbrushed, solidly built and cockily inclusive, gathering Old Skool rhythmic science, technoid shivers and Gothic interludes into its inky, brooding embrace.")
  • Accurate Spit Boy E.P [2009, Slowfoot Records] (Boomkat.com: “Robert follows his inquisitively improvisational and experimental ear into highly accomplished and complex soundscapes.”)
  • Extasis E.P [2015, Slowfoot Records] (Sound Colour Vibration's review: "The music on this record is stunning.")
  • Flesh [2015, Slowfoot Records] (DJ Magazine writes: "The album veers between mutant dubstep [Viker Raver] and sledgehammer techno [Straighten], heading into otherworldly, blissed-out opiate moments via analogue alien oddness. Typical of any really good trip, it's really difficult to define. 9/10.")
  • Flesh Decomposed [2016, Slowfoot Records] (Nowa Musyka in their review: "Flesh Decomposed is perhaps his best work to date. This flesh might be decomposed, but it still tastes exquisite...")
  • Pop E.P [2016, Slowfoot Records] (Igloo Magazine writes: "Logan’s latest is the Pop EP released on Slowfoot—yet another solid addition to his already impressive catalog. Don’t let the title misguide you. This isn’t Logan’s sellout work. This is a foray into new territory...")
  • Sculptor Galaxy [2017, Projekt Records] (Exposé Online: “The entirety of the disc takes the explorative route in lieu of the predictable, and for that I’m calling Sculptor Galaxy one of the best electronic based releases of 2017. Find a copy before it disappears.”
  • You, Me [2022 E.P] (Exposé Online: “With You, Me one can find something well beyond the usual electronic fare.”)

More releases & collaborative albums:
  • Biosonic [2016 collaborative album with Steve Roach] (The Answer Is In The Beat wrote: “It’s really dense, really involved, and absolutely incredible...like being in a giant warehouse full of machines, and every one of them is doing something different.”)
  • Second Nature [2016 collaborative album with Steve Roach] (Progarchives review: “...The album grows in power and presence with every listen, gradually revealing so many understated little layers and the most deeply personal reflections. While it's hardly easy listening, `Second Nature' is truly an exercise in darkly exquisite sophistication.”)

There’s a tension zone really engaging music occupies - the delicate but tough, tight but loose, deep but not overworked, extreme sounding but not harsh on ears etc. paradox. That holding of the space between seemingly impossible sonic opposites is what I love most in music.
